The Brine Design:
Landscape and Garden Principles in Practice

Join an on-site seminar with Horticultural Design’s Principal Landscape Designer, Duncan Brine, in his six acre garden in Pawling, NY. This roaming seminar will include a discussion of Brine’s landscape design process in response to your observation and inquiry.

The Brine Garden resembles a public garden, with multiple areas, each with its own character. Two 1920’s farmhouses establish an old-fashioned ambience. They sit on a cliff over a marsh and glade and enjoy long vistas of distant ridges. The Brine Garden involves the whole property and joins with the surrounding landscape, which includes the Appalachian Trail and other preserved open land.

Paths lead to a sequence of experience and discovery. Garden and naturalistic areas blend. Numerous native plants from on-site container nurseries have been incorporated.

This seminar is geared to professional designers and those owning or working on large, private gardens.

Underway since 1990, the Brine Garden is toured by The Garden Conservancy, The New York Botanical Garden, and others.

2008 date to be announced.
