2008 Open Date to be Confirmed

The Garden Conservancy is the first national organization devoted to preserving exceptional American gardens for the public’s education and enjoyment. “We conserve beautiful gardens because they are a vital part of our nation’s cultural heritage.”

The Garden Conservancy opens the gates of America’s finest private gardens by inviting the public to visit. The Conservancy’s Open Days Program encourages appreciation of “gardens as living works of art.”

The Brine Garden – Duncan & Julia Brine

21 Bluebird Inn Road, Pawling, NY

Underway since 1990, this six-acre garden and arboretum reflect both naturalism and structure. Two 1920s farmhouses establish an old-fashioned ambience. They sit on a cliff over a marsh and glade and enjoy long vistas of distant ridges. Gravel pathways connect horticulturally diverse areas. Native plants from the owner’s nursery are featured. Garden and naturalistic areas blend. Dramatic, large-leaved, and floriferous perennials accent an allĂ©e of Taxodium, groupings of Acer triflorum, Betula nigra and Parrotia, as well as a hedge of Miscanthus giganteus. A map and plant list are provided.
